1 Find the anther
For this picture the standards are pulled open, leaving the style arms with the the pollen bearing anther clearly visible
2 Remove the anther
This is the anther with pollen, plucked from the flower using tweezers
3 Apply the pollen
The standards and falls have been removed to make it easier to see the style arm and stigmatic lip Brush the pollen across the moist stigmatic lip
4 Label and record
Don’t forget to label your cross and record the cross somewhere! You are going to want to know who the parents were when you introduce your iris
1 Find a clump
This is a clump, ready to dig
2 Dig and wash
Here is that same clump, lifted from the ground and washed so you can see how the rhizomes connect together
