Judy grew up in Iowa gardening with her Grandmother and developed a love for plants and flowers, including irises. She always had irises in her yard but then answered a Craigslist ad a few years back of an iris garden going out of business, bought all the stock they had (then subsequently another garden a year later) and discovered the local iris clubs. She was hooked and her collection has grown exponentially since then. She enjoys learning about unusual types of irises and attempting to grow them in Texas. Her favorites are the flatties and MTBs and she is working on a National Collection of both to help preserve them for the future. Her love of irises has turned into The Shady Spot commercial iris garden at her home in Whitesboro. She has served as the President of the Texoma Rainbow Iris Society, as Membership Chairman for both the Iris Society of Dallas and the Fort Worth Iris Society. She has been Show Chair for both TRIS and FWIS. She has been the Regional Director for the Tall Bearded Iris Society, the Historical Iris Preservation Society and the Aril Society International. She has also served as the Rhizome Sale Chair for HIPS and co-chair for ASI. She loves going to iris events and visiting with other iris fanatics
